You relax and breathe.
You sit back in a reclined chair and breathe normally into a metabolic cart for several minutes. It measures the oxygen you use and the carbon dioxide you exhale.
See exactly how much fat, muscle and visceral fat you carry, then measure how many calories your body actually burns. Book your DEXA at Bellmore or Stony Brook for $99, Monday through Friday and add the RMR metabolic test for $50. Both together: $149.

The $99 DEXA and $50 RMR upgrade apply only to Bellmore and Stony Brook appointments on Monday, Nov 2 through Friday, Nov 6. The rate won't apply to future weeks: DEXA returns to $179 and RMR to $179.
01 · The DEXA scan · $99 Nov 2–6
About seven minutes lying on a medical-grade GE DEXA scanner. No needles, no discomfort. Your results are reviewed with you in person during the same visit.

02 · The $50 upgrade
RMR stands for Resting Metabolic Rate: the number of calories your body burns at rest just to keep you alive, breathing, pumping blood and repairing tissue. For most people it's the largest share of the calories they burn each day.
Every calorie target from an app or online calculator is a prediction based on age, height and weight. An RMR test measures yours directly from your breath.

You sit back in a reclined chair and breathe normally into a metabolic cart for several minutes. It measures the oxygen you use and the carbon dioxide you exhale.
From that gas exchange we calculate your resting calorie burn and estimate whether you're burning mostly fat or carbohydrate at rest.
In this example, the prediction is 270 calories a day too high. That's the kind of gap that can stall progress on a plan that looks right on paper.
DEXA tells you what you're made of. RMR tells you what that body burns. Together, they let us set calorie and protein targets from your measured lean mass and metabolism instead of a formula. Results depend on your history and goals, and your team will explain what yours mean for you.

Only for appointments Monday, Nov 2 through Friday, Nov 6. The rate won't apply to future weeks; after Nov 6, both tests return to their regular $179 price.
In the booking calendar, choose "Dexa Body Scan & RMR Promo" ($149, 60 minutes). It includes the DEXA scan and the RMR test in one visit. For DEXA only, choose "Limited Dexa Promotion" ($99).
Bellmore (2570 Merrick Rd) and Stony Brook (213 Hallock Rd) only. It is not valid at our Manhattan office.
Your Resting Metabolic Rate is how many calories your body burns at rest. The test measures it from your breath, so your calorie target is based on your own metabolism instead of a calculator's estimate.
For the DEXA scan: fast for 2 hours (water is fine), skip exercise beforehand, avoid calcium supplements for 24 hours, and wear comfortable metal-free athletic clothes and socks. The RMR test usually calls for a slightly longer fast and no caffeine beforehand. Our team will confirm your exact prep when you book.
Not at all. You lie comfortably on the scanner for about seven minutes. No needles and no discomfort.
Our testing and many services are HSA and FSA eligible, and our team can help with the documentation you need.
